The inability to ovulate is the most common cause of infertility amongst women. This problem can be very devastating for any young couple who are desperate to start a family. If you have being trying to get pregnant for longer than 12 months without success, speak to your doctor about a fertility drug called Clomid.
Doctors often prescribe fertility drugs as the first option to treating infertile women. Clomid is one of the most popular fertility drugs. This medication has helped millions of childless couples all over the world. Clomid has been around for many decades so it has an excellent track record of success.
Clomid contains hormones, similar to the ones naturally produced by a woman’s body. The synthetic hormone in Clomid is called clomiphene. This tricks the woman’s brain to think that there is not enough estrogen in her blood stream, which forces the body produce a hormone known as GnRH.
When GnRH is released, it stimulates the production of other hormones which all work together to make the ovaries produce estrogen. This results in the production of eggs – known as ovulation. When a woman ovulates she is able to become pregnant. This is how Clomid works.
If a woman’s infertility problem is due to the inability to ovulate, she can expect good results from Clomid. The really good news is that she has a 50 percent chance of conceiving within six months of treatment with Clomid. So you can see that Clomid has a good rate of success.
The usual dose of Clomid is one 50mg tablet to be taken once a day for five days. But your doctor will decide on the correct dose for you. If you do not have success with the first course, your doctor can prescribe another course with a 100mg tablet. If you are still unable to become pregnant, your doctor may prescribe up to six courses of Clomid. But this is the maximum.
