The use of Doxycycline as a treatment for acne is both unusual and rather unorthodox. The medicine is actually an antibiotic. It combats bacterial infections by slowing down the growth of the infection and allowing the body’s immune system to overcome it and eradicate it.

As with many antibiotics, generic doxycycline has mild side effects. These include nausea and vomiting (among other things).

However, as a treatment for acne the dosages are kept low. So, low in fact, they aren’t effective as an antibiotic. Because of this you don’t get the side effect an antibiotic can give you. Instead, you get only the anti-inflammatory effects.
